The investment aims to strengthen energy-efficient cold storage infrastructure, enhancing supply chains for both agricultural produce and pharmaceuticals. Cold Solutions Kiambu’s facilities focus on sustainable refrigeration systems, helping reduce food loss and ensuring safe, climate-resilient storage for perishable goods and vaccines.

John Kimotho, investment director at Mirova Kenya, highlighted the broader impact: “Through this investment, the Gigaton Fund is accelerating climate-focused solutions in emerging markets. Supporting Cold Solutions Kiambu enables scalable, energy-efficient cold chain operations that are vital for food security and health systems in East Africa.”

Suki Muia, investment director at ARCH Emerging Markets Partners, added: “Partnering with Mirova aligns with our commitment to build resilient, sustainable cold chain solutions that preserve food and vaccines while minimising energy use across the region.”

This transaction illustrates the growing momentum for private equity investment in Africa’s cold chain sector, with climate-conscious and technologically advanced infrastructure becoming a priority for investors and operators alike.
