Unified operations strengthen supply chain and cold chain capabilities

DSV South Africa celebrated a significant milestone on 3 November 2025, marking the official go-live of its integration with Schenker. The event, held across DSV offices nationwide, heralds a new era for the organisation – a chapter defined by collaboration, shared purpose, and an enhanced service offering, including temperature-controlled facilities that strengthen DSV’s cold chain capabilities.
In the months leading up to this integration, teams across the country worked meticulously to ensure a seamless transition. Internal initiatives fostered momentum, built unity and prepared employees to deliver consistent, high-quality service to customers.
At DSV Park in Gauteng, the head office hosted a tree-planting ceremony and a live-streamed address by senior leadership, connecting all facilities in real-time. Employees nationwide joined in celebrations featuring music, balloons, photo booths, and even popcorn machines – a playful nod to “popping into a new era.” Special welcome packages added to the sense of occasion, reflecting the energy and enthusiasm of the day.
“Today is more than just a date on the calendar, it’s a defining moment in our journey together. We’re not just aligning systems and processes; we’re bringing together the incredible talent, energy, and commitment of our people. Our people have embraced change, supported one another, and shown what’s possible when we move forward together” – Freda Venter, vice-president, Finance in sub-Saharan Africa.
Progress across divisions
- Air and sea: The Air & Sea teams in South Africa and Mozambique have spent the past six months preparing for the go-live, supported by strong leadership and the Operational Excellence team. Commercial and customer-facing teams have boosted confidence, while operational teams implemented a buddy system to train and support colleagues transitioning to CargoWise.
“As we integrate these two strong organisations in sub-Saharan Africa, we are consolidating their successes to create greater value and an enhanced service experience for our customers” – Melanie Smit, vice-president for DSV Air & Sea, sub-Saharan Africa.
- Contract logistics: integration in Contract Logistics continues across teams and customer operations. Rebranding initiatives, uniform rollouts, and proactive client communications reinforce trust in unified operations. System stability is a priority, with DSV and Schenker Warehouse Management Systems operating in parallel to maintain uninterrupted service. Planning is underway for new site integrations in Gqeberha and Cape Town, including facilities that are temperature-controlled to support cold chain operations.
“I am truly excited about the integration. It brings new skills, capabilities, and knowledge to our people, and introduces new customers and industry verticals to our portfolio. This is a valuable opportunity to strengthen our expertise and deliver even greater value to the market” – Anthony Diack, managing director for contract logistics, South Africa.
- Road: With all Schenker customers onboarded onto the DSV system, communications completed, and legal reviews finalised, the Road division is fully prepared to deliver seamless service as one unified organisation.
“The true work begins now. It is essential that we capitalise on our position as the world’s leading global logistics company. Our focus must be on delivering our customers premier service and exceptional quality. Together, we have the opportunity to redefine industry standards and set a benchmark for excellence” – Ralton Moses, cluster head for DSV Road, sub-Saharan Africa.
Looking ahead
With unified systems, processes, and teams, DSV South Africa is positioned to deliver operational excellence while maintaining a strong focus on temperature-sensitive supply chains. A culture valuing people, performance, and partnership underpins the organisation’s growth.
“Thank you to every colleague who contributed and to our new colleagues – welcome. Your expertise deepens our capabilities and broadens our footprint. We’re excited about the opportunities ahead and the value we’ll create together for our customers and communities” – Kyle Blackbeard, senior director, human resources Africa.
